Thought Mechanics is redesigning it’s website, thought I would take a crack at it, here’s my work in progress. 

Q) Are you a designer?
A) No, just an environmental researcher toying around with Wordpress themes. I consider myself somewhat of a “theme mixer”; you’ll know what I mean when you play around with this site.

Q) I can tell, your designs are so, so dull.
A) The correct expressions would be “minimal” or “simple”.

Q) Why should TM select your design? They have a much better looking site now?
A) For starters, this ported theme is simplest to use. The focus is to draw attention to the content, not the design/graphics. Anyone can have a good-looking site, but I believe the content should determine the worth of a site. TM definitely has the content, and to good-looking site, the change would make it easy to use.

Q) And why do you think your theme will make it any easier to use?
A) With my themes, it is easy to consolidate all “non-content” aspects at one location (at the bottom or the side). The archive page was overhauled, while the category list remains weighted (just like the existing Tag Cloud); it is now color coded (red most active, black least active, can be changed) and uses the heat map plugin instead of UTW. The search feature at the top of the page (and the navigation section) is handy. Topics are listed chronologically, resulting in easy browsing.

Q) The original UltraMinima theme has two-columns, why not here?
A) I changed it for this competition, the focus in on the content, however, it could be easily modified into a two or three column page.

Q) And the theme switcher?
A) It is not included in the design, I am simply using it to highlight a light and dark theme within the same Wordpress install with no changes made to the content/layout.

Q) And the corner banner/make poverty history…?
A) A cool way to support your favorite charity.

Q) I still think you could use more colors.
A) Yeah, I can throw in a few rainbows hear and there if you like?

Q) Are your suggestions that I am …?
A) Are you?

Q) I think you suck as a designer?
A) Did I mention I have a day job as a researcher?
