The simplest way to take down a splog like the first one you mentioned is to report them to google adsense. They are using google adsense ads. the report url for google adsense is <a href="https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/request.py?search_ask=1&subtopic=&contact=rpv&main_topic=other&contact_type=11&contact_topic=Report+a+policy+violation&Action.Search=Continue" rel="nofollow">here</a>. This will help clean the web up, and give you a sense of satisfaction, by taking the splogger's revenue away.

The solution that has worked for me thus far has been to contact the hosting company of the culprit.

@ Robin

As our friend Marcus (or it Rick Astley himself ;-)) pointed out, server side IP ban is a better idea, the plugin from what I could tell (I do not use it) is a http ban, similar to our Javascript idea.

@ Marcus,
Thanks for your input, I would like to see if you or someone else actually finds a real solution to this issue. If all we are doing is slowing them down, then so be it, collectively we can might be able to make an impact.

These methods are simplistic and almost useless at best.

The javascript redirect is useless, the method the splogger uses to scrape your site DOESN'T use a browser so the javascript wont run!

The .htaccess or other server side redirects are better but any one with half a brain will be able to bypass them.

Conclusion, if some one wants to steal your content, you can only slow them down, you CAN'T stop them.

The only upside is, if you ban their IP they probably wont notice (because your one of many and they don't actually care about your specific content, its filler after all based on a subject they want to spam) so it will probably end with that.

But as they say, All you base are belong to us! Make your time!

Hi, i know some splogs are stealing my contents even though i don't have that much traffic. However, does the effect in above techniques will be the same if i simply ban the splog's IP using plugin like wp-ban? Any help and advice will be highly appreciated.
