  1. 6. headsetop | March 21, 2007 #

    @ Bratfly

    This is a little bit of work:

    1) Open both index.php and archive.php files.

    2) Copy everything between the loop comments, i.e. between “the loop” to “end loop”

    3) Paste it in place of code currently in archive.php below the {ul class=”dates”} and {/ul} tag. (I am using { and } in place of < and >.)

    That should do it. Save a copy of the original archive.php file just in case!

    How can I edit the script. I uploaded the theme into wordpress, and it doesn’t allow me to edit it. I want to take the Flickr off and add other widgets. Is there a way to do that?

  1. 8. hso | April 9, 2007 #

    @ byron

    You need to set the file permission of your theme and all it’s files to 766 to edit it. Use the FTP program to access the file, right click and change permission.

    My posts do not show up when you click on their links. My archive doesnt come up. All of my links are pointing to the main page. What file do I need to edit and what codes do I need to add?? Also, there is a “Not Found” error message on the bottom of the page and I cannot understand what it is trying to process that isnt working…It seems to only show up when I am logged in.

  1. 11. hso | May 4, 2007 #

    @ Chelcy

    Looks like you are missing a lot of the template files. Try uploading theme once again and make sure that you (at least) have the following files/folder in the earthling folder:

    style.css
    header.php
    index.php
    sidebar.php
    footer.php
    single.php
    page.php
    and a folder called “images”

  1. 12. jeremy | May 17, 2007 #

    Hi…nice theme. Any reason why the blogroll links don’t show up and wp_get_links() doesn’t seem to pull in the blogroll links?

    thanks in advance.

  1. 13. headsetop | May 17, 2007 #

    @ jeremy

    I do not include blogrolls in my themes for the simple reason that it come pre-formatted and pre-set in WP. If you are using widgets, it’s just a matter of dragging and dropping it to the sidebar. However, if you are having issues with the tag, check the version of WP you are using and make sure that particular tag is supported. Read more info on Codex, I believe that tag “wp_get_links()” is for pre-2.1 versions only!

    hi!

    i have been having trouble getting earthling to work… i’ve dled it into the right folders and activated the plugins, but when i go to activate it in themes (it does show up there), my website always comes up as the wordpress default theme. the same happens with idyllic as well. what might i be doing wrong?

    thanks!

  1. 15. hso | June 3, 2007 #

    @ Jenn

    Add the theme to folder /wp-content/themes/ and plugins to /wp-content/plugins/

    If the theme files do not include the styl.css, it will not show up on the theme list, but will have a note saying so. If you do not even find a note below the themes list that there is a missing file in the new theme you added, then you are adding the theme in the wrong folder.

    [...] The Irony: Yes, additionally I was blamed for ripping off another theme’s php code. However, I am not going to deny this, I indeed mercilessly ripped it off, adding a lot of lines such as <?php get_sidebar(); ?> <?php get_footer(); ?> and many others that leave no doubts as to who’s theme was ripped. Jokes aside, however, I did base some of my themes on another designer’s code, and I am talking about Mark’s theme – Earthling, which coding I’m also using for Charm theme, my work in progress these days. The amusing thing is, as I said in my reply, I spoke to Mark and DO have his permission to use his Earthling’s coding structure, assuming I am providing credits – and I do. [...]

    I’m curious. Is it possible to display the entirety of the posts on my front page instead of allowing them to be truncated? As a matter of fact, I don’t want any posts to be truncated on my site… thanks in advance for any tips!

  1. 20. hso | June 27, 2007 #

    @ Nate

    Open index.php and look for this:

    the_excerpt

    make that:

    the_content

    That will bring up the full posts. Repeat the same for search.php or any othe rpage that displays only excerpts.

  1. 21. Headsetoptions.org » Matt takes over http://themes.wordpress.net | July 14, 2007 #

    [...] Close to 100 themes were removed in the past 3 months for copyright violations alone, a handful of users were down-graded to subscribers (as opposed to contributors) for repeat offense. One funny incident comes to my mind, allow me to indulge. A designer copied one of my themes and made numerous themes out of it and sold footer links to sponsors on DP, all she did was change the header images, rename the theme and call it a new theme. When Mark confronted her, she promised to add attribution credits (for the original template designer and us). She promptly ignored her promise and wrote to me (i.e. to the WP Moderator) saying that she has sorted it out with the designers and it’s OK for me to allow her to add her themes to the theme viewer. Of course, that never happened, so she posted an angry rant calling me unjust (and while you are there check the page source and view the CSS, it’s our Eathling theme without any attributes). That is the sorry state of our theming community today, and it’s people like her that hastened the sponsored theme debacle and rightfully so. Add to that the issues people like Jez, who in the name of non-sponsored themes included 30+ links to his site from each of his newer themes. So as a friend often pointed out, there is “greed”, but I want to add that it’s just not limited to sponsored theme designers. Copyright violations by and far remains the single largest unresolved issue. [...]

    Is there a way to add a widget to the dynamic sidebar? When I add a widget to the dynamic sidebar, only the widget I added appeared. How can I maintain the flickr and search widgets that appear dynamically, plus add my own? Thanks!

  1. 28. hso | February 10, 2008 #

    @ Chase

    Open sidebar.php and look for this:

    <ul>
    <?php if ( function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’) && dynamic_sidebar(2) ) : else : ?>
    <h2><label for=”s”><?php _e(‘Search:’); ?></label></h2>
    <form id=”searchform” method=”get” action=”<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>”>
    <div>
    <input type=”text” name=”s” id=”s” size=”15″ />
    <input type=”submit” value=”<?php _e(‘Go!’); ?>” />
    </div>
    </form>
    <br/>
    <h2><?php _e(‘Meta:’); ?></h2>
    <ul>
    <?php wp_register(); ?>
    <li><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>

    <?php wp_meta(); ?>
    </ul>
    <br/>
    <h2>Flickr:</h2>
    <div id=”flickr”>
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.flickr.com/badge_code_v2.gne? count=4&display=random&size=s &layout=x&source=all_tag &tag=art”></script>
    </div>
    <br/>
    <?php endif; ?>
    </ul>

    Make that:

    <ul>
    <?php if ( function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’) && dynamic_sidebar(2) ) : else : ?>
    <h2><?php _e(‘Meta:’); ?></h2>
    <?php wp_register(); ?>
    <li><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>
    <li><a href=”feed:<?php bloginfo(‘rss2_url’); ?>” title=”<?php _e(‘Syndicate this site using RSS’); ?>”><?php _e(‘<abbr title=”Really Simple Syndication”>RSS</abbr>’); ?></a></li>
    <li><a href=”feed:<?php bloginfo(‘comments_rss2_url’); ?>” title=”<?php _e(‘The latest comments to all posts in RSS’); ?>”><?php _e(‘Comments <abbr title=”Really Simple Syndication”>RSS</abbr>’); ?></a></li>
    <li><a href=”http://validator.w3.org/check/referer” title=”<?php _e(‘This page validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional’); ?>”><?php _e(‘Valid <abbr title=”eXtensible HyperText Markup Language”>XHTML</abbr>’); ?></a></li>
    <li><a href=”http://gmpg.org/xfn/”><abbr title=”XHTML Friends Network”>XFN</abbr></a></li>
    <li><a href=”http://www.headsetoptions.org/”>Web Design</a></li>

    <li><a href=”http://wordpress.org/” title=”<?php _e(‘Powered by WordPress, state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform.’); ?>”><abbr title=”WordPress”>WP</abbr></a></li>
    <?php wp_meta(); ?>
    </ul>
    <?php endif; ?>

    Now add the following section either above or below the widget code (above)

    <h2><label for=”s”><?php _e(‘Search:’); ?></label></h2>
    <form id=”searchform” method=”get” action=”<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>”>
    <div>
    <input type=”text” name=”s” id=”s” size=”15″ />
    <input type=”submit” value=”<?php _e(‘Go!’); ?>” />
    </div>
    </form>
    <br/>
    <h2>Flickr:</h2>
    <div id=”flickr”>
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.flickr.com/badge_code_v2.gne? count=4&display=random&size=s &layout=x&source=all_tag &tag=art”></script>
    </div>

    is there a simple css code edit i can make to add line-height or padding within the links widget? i use several categories, and when it displays, the very last list item from one category is directly on top of the title/header for the next category – it would be nice to give this spot a little more space. thanks so much for a gorgeous theme!

    Add this to your theme stylesheet (style.css):

    #colOne { padding: 2px; margin: 2px; border: 1px solid #ccc; }

    Change/play around with the padding, margin and/or border style.
