    A few bugs:

    (I’m a wordpress n00b, so bear with me)

    When no entries exist, it should display a search form. On line 41 of index.php, searchform.php does not exist. Using Search.php instead will break the template.

    Figuring out how to *use* the sideblog isn’t clear. Or I’m a newb, because I can’t figure it out. ;) What should it be named?

    @ Karl Katzke

    Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I think the file is missing from the theme download, 99.9% of users will not need it, but anyway. Please head to the support section and scroll down to the downloads and get the file, rename it to searchform.php and upload to your WP Themes folder along with the other SunRise files.

    Hello,

    Thank you for a great sunrise template.

    I am absolutely new to WordPress and not familiar with php or Scripting; and need some help. I would like to replace the Sidebar flickr photos with my own. The installation instructions
    said - Find the Flickr script

    - Change “tag=art” to “tag=your tag” “your tag” being your own unique tag

    Thsi was not very clear to me. How do I do this?

    As an example — suppose I have my picture (s) at the url below — how do I edit the sidebar to point to it?

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/unitalbum/shellwelsmall.gif

    Thanks for your help.

    AP

  1. 4. hso | October 15, 2006 #

    @ A Potter

    You will not be able to use the Flickr script to point to a PhotoBucket account, you will need a Flickr account and have images in there with a unique tag that you think no one else will use. You then replace the word “art” from the existing tag with “youruniquetag”, make sure your unique tag is a single word.

  1. 5. A Potter | October 15, 2006 #

    Thanks so much for your quick response. Much appreciated.

    Transferring my pics to Flickr is one option I understand…. but my real requirement was to display a series of static pics (not rotating pics) on the main page — which are hyperlinks to my Product pages — these are my product theme pics that are already hosted on photobucket. I was thinking I could add a table with rows of these photobucket pics (with hyperlinks to my Product pages) just below the text on the right hand side. I can use Frontpage to do this — I am familiar with that.

    Then, as you advised, I could just have a few indicative product theme pics uploaded to Flikr (after getting my unique tag and updating it to the theme file etc) which would show up my rotating pics on the left bar …to add interest to the page..

    Do you think that is a good idea that will work?

    Thanks.

    using HTML with WordPress is not an issue, it can be done and what you are suggesting will work.

    Hi–
    I’m going to download and use “SunRise.” I’m new to WordPress. Perhaps most of the Theme instructions will be clear.

    I have a similar question to A. Potter about using static images (or product books) on the right sidebar where the Flickr pictures are.

    What do I do with the Flickr label, since not needed?
    I can upload the pictures.
    How do I insert them as static pix on the right sidebar?

    What would be your fee to set up “SunRise” on my URL page, with Sidebar names and 4-6 small pix, HOME & 2 Pages (text and 1 image)for Articles, 4 Blog Categories on Sidebar (open to no comments yet); RSS feed from google news or other news service on specific keywords (2 or 3) on the Category blog pages. Please let me know. Thank you.

    My mistake–I meant left sidebar. I see your fee on the theme page link at WP. Sounds good. Let me hear from you.

    Question re RSS Feeds
    Sorry to write you from this comments field–I can’t email you where I am right now. I have several questions:
    1. When I find a new site I want an RSS feed from, if I copy the RSS Feed info, and give it to you, will it give the Feed to my Blog on a Daily Basis, or whenever the topic or keyword has material? How do I do that?
    2. How can I get an RSS Feed on specific keywords in syndicated news sites?
    3. How do you want me to give you RSS Feed information for the sites or keywords I want to feed into my Blog?
    4. Should I set up separate Categories for the Feeds? Or, will a Feed go onto the Category as a Post on a Daily Basis? You can respond to us at the email you have for us.

    I’m writing here because I’m not at my computer with your email.

    We have a flash banner. It would fit where “computer jobs” is–in that space. Can you put it there?

  1. 15. Blake | December 14, 2006 #

    Firstly, this is a very nice theme. One problem, I can not see the sidebar navigation on the main page in IE 6 or 7. Firefox is great, but nothing in MS. Once I go into the “about” pages everything is fine, just not the main.

    Help?!?!?!

  1. 16. hso | December 14, 2006 #

    @ Blake

    Can you send me your site URL, I will look, it works in both IE and FF at my test site: http://www.headsetoptions.org/play/index.php?wptheme=sunrise

  1. 17. Tyler Dodds | December 22, 2006 #

    I am using the Sunrise theme and when I search on Google or Yahoo I am getting this under the link title.

    Headsetoptions: Activism, Webdesign for Non-Profits & a Socio-political Blog.

    Where can I change this for the site I am customizing?

    Thanks for any help!
    tyler

  1. 18. hso | December 22, 2006 #

    @ Tyler Dodds

    I forgot to get that off my test site before releasing it, I think that issue exists on al my themes. To get rid of it, open header.php and look for keywords, either replace or delete it.

  1. 19. Eric Doggett | December 23, 2006 #

    @hso:

    I am experiencing near the exact same problem that Blake is - in IE 6, the left nav is forced down to the bottom of the page. Everything is fine on the About page, however.

    In style.css, commenting out #main .left_side helps slightly, although the page stops ‘growing’ vertically, so any posts I have after a certain point disappear.

    http://00ef6b2.netsolhost.com/blog/

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!!!
    Eric Doggett

  1. 20. hso | December 24, 2006 #

    @ Eric Doggett

    In your case, it is the image width, reduce it a bit and it will fall right back in place. Notice how it never happens in pages with no wide images!

    Hi.
    I Like this theme but I’m triying to convert text of the post to black color but I edit the CSS without any result.

    Can you explain me how i put the font color of the post in black please?

  1. 23. hso | January 16, 2007 #

    @ JMGH

    Look for:

    .content {
    background: #FFF url(images/bgmain.jpg) repeat-y center;
    color: #ccc;
    margin: 0 auto;
    padding: 0;
    width: 787px;
    }

    Change #ccc to #000

  1. 24. sunriser | February 3, 2007 #

    Thanks for “Sunrise”, very nice theme. Under each post, what code do I add to what file in order to display the number of comments? This would in turn link to the post itself, as the post title would.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

  1. 25. headsetop | February 3, 2007 #

    @ sunriser

    I would add this piece of code in your index.php and in single.php files below the line that has the terms “the_content”

    Add this code between < and >:

    ?php comments_popup_link(’Comment now »’, ‘1 Comment »’, ‘% Comments »’, ‘commentslink’); ?

    Thanks for the quick reply and kudos to all at Headsetoptions!

  1. 27. Anton | February 8, 2007 #

    Hi,

    First of all thanks for the great theme. So far I’ve chosen Sunrise for my new blog, but what bothers me is the lack of a link section in the sidebar.

    Is there a way I could place the Blogroll in the sidebar? Your help will be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Anton

  1. 28. sunriser | February 9, 2007 #

    Hi hso,
    May I know which part of the CSS file controls the border around the images? Is there any other file that affects this? I think the image border is one of the nicest touches of Sunrise. Thanks again in advance for the great support.

  1. 29. hso | February 10, 2007 #

    @ Sunriser

    Open style.css and use the find feature (Ctrl+F) and find “img”, one of the img wil have padding, border and margin set. Make the border 0px.

  1. 30. sunriser | February 10, 2007 #

    I actually like the padding and border; I simply wanted to tweak the color. For some reason, the initial change I did on “#content img” didn’t take, even with correct file permissions. Hence my post. Thanks for your time and quick response. Love the theme!

  1. 31. Anton | February 10, 2007 #

    Hso, have you got any solution to the problem I mentioned above?

  1. 32. hso | February 10, 2007 #

    @ Anton

    Add this line of code within < and > tags in your sidebar.php file where you want the links to appear:

    ?php get_links_list(’order’); ?

  1. 33. Anton | March 12, 2007 #

    Thanks for your help, hso. The theme works fine.

    There is one more thing I find a little odd. When I click on a category, I don’t get a list of posts under this category, instead I have only one post and “next” and “previous” links to navigate through the rest of the posts.

    Do you have a solution for me? I want to have a list with all the post within each category or monthly archive.

    Thanks once again for the great theme.

  1. 34. headsetop | March 12, 2007 #

    @ Anton

    From what you describe, it appears liek you have the number of posts to display to 1. If so, it will show only one posy even in archive. Instead, you can add a query to index.php to display only pne post and set the WP Admin > Reading “Show at most” setting to 10 to 15 or whatever number you want displayed.

    Are you following what I am saying?

  1. 35. Anton | March 13, 2007 #

    Thanks very much.

    Actually I messed that one up when I was looking for a way to limit the number of posts on the first page. It seems this option controls every page but not the first one :)

  1. 36. Ejsi | May 9, 2007 #

    Hello!

    First of all, I would like thank you for great “Sunrise” theme. When I installed Wordpress and I found your theme I decided that it’ll be my homepage :)

    I customized it, but after testing my page in Opera and Firefox I discovered two minor problems and one which is very important.

    1st problem - in IE menu on the left looks OK, but Opera and FF the bottom border is too high. (http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/9788/sdfasdcw8.jpg)

    2nd problem - how can I add arrow on the left to items in links section (http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/9788/sdfasdcw8.jpg)

    3rd, major problem - in the latest version of Firefox all the text is centered! Not only on my blog, but also in demo on this page and original design made by David Herreman. It completely ruins the site and I can’t use your theme with this problem.

    I would be really grateful if you could help me, thanks in advance.

  1. 37. headsetop | May 12, 2007 #

    @ Ejsi

    1) To reduce space between the pages list, open style.css and look for this code:

    .nav { text-align: left; color: #7D8085; padding: 20px 0 0 0px; width: 150px; }
    .nav li {
    font-weight: bold;
    margin: 5px 0 5px 0px;
    padding: 0px 0 0 0px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
    height: 25px; background: url(images/li.png) no-repeat left;
    }

    Increase the margin from 5px 0 5px 0px; to something like 5px 0 10px 0px;

    Let me know if that fixes it.

    2) Make sure the Links are an unordered list, that is, it should be within a ul and li tag (this is typically how blogrolls are presented in WP). To ensure it works well across the board, open style.css and look for this code:

    #main .left_side .hitems ul {
    margin: 5px 0 5px 0;
    padding : 0;
    color: #a90000;
    list-style-image: url(images/arrow.gif);
    }

    Copy and paste it right below the original code and change it to this:

    #main .left_side .hitems ul li {
    margin: 5px 0 5px 0;
    padding : 0;
    color: #a90000;
    list-style-image: url(images/arrow.gif);
    }

    The only thing I added was the li following the ul in the code. That should do it.

    3) I need to look into this and test it on FF 3.0

  1. 38. Ejsi | May 13, 2007 #

    Thank you very much for the help. I’m waiting for solution of third problem :)

    Greetings.

  1. 42. jean-Michel | May 24, 2007 #

    Hello,
    I’ve been using sunrinse for few month now and have to say I ‘m very happy with design as I had very good feedback from uers.I did the french translation and made some design change and that’s great.

    Having now many posts in the blog I had issue with the page navigation. I tried many options, copying the navigation php function from the classic wordpress theme, or integrationg the wp-pagenavi plugin and have still the same issue. If I click on previous entry i stay on the same page !!!
    It’s quite an issue as it means that for the moment I can just read previous post thru archive!!!
    Right now I change in index.php the number of post posted but it could only be a temporary way to manage the stuff. Thanks a lot for your help.

  1. 43. hso | May 24, 2007 #

    @ jean-Michel

    The issue is with the php call for a particular numebr of posts, remove the following (which will be between < and > ) from index.php and add the generic navigation tag from classic or default theme and it should work.

    ?php
    // Here is the call to only make two posts show up on the homepage REGARDLESS of your options in the control panel
    query_posts(’showposts=10′);
    ?

  1. 44. Ejsi | May 27, 2007 #

    Mmm… Sorry for bothering you, but how the work’s going? I can’t wait to start using your template ;)

  1. 45. Ejsi | May 27, 2007 #

    I must apologize you very much. I guess the problem is caused by my FF. Sorry for bothering you!

    By the way, in my comment #36 I meant line under items in list (http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2039/image2sr0.png). Still I can’t solve this problem. Could you help me?

  1. 46. headsetop | May 27, 2007 #

    @ Ejsi

    ouls you try an dplay with the margin numbers here in you style.css:

    .nav li {
    font-weight: bold;
    margin: 5px 0 5px 0px;
    padding: 0px 0 0 0px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
    height: 25px; background: url(images/li.png) no-repeat left;
    }

    In line 3 you have margin of 5px for top and 5px for bottom, change the 2nd value (5px) to less than that and see if it makes any difference, in the mean time I will check to see why the problem exists in the first place.

  1. 47. jean-Michel | May 30, 2007 #

    It works !!! That’s fabulous !!! I spent so much time to look for a solution !!! It was so simple but without your help it would be impossible to find. Thanks again for your help and so quick answer. I have been less reactive ;-)
    and one more time thks again for the template

  1. 48. Ejsi | June 20, 2007 #

    Hi!

    Probably it is the last problem, which I should solve to start using your template. Unfortunately, I can’t solve it by myself, so I must ask you for help.

    I’ve added links in sidebar by function . Everything works all right, but I want to change design of them to the same as other menu items. I don’t know how I can remove points near titles of links categories and border of this list. Here’s my sidebar - http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/8521/image2hs1.png . Thanks in advance for solution.

  1. 49. hso | June 22, 2007 #

    @ Ejsi

    If you are adding the blogroll using Sidebar Widgets, then the dot will stay. You can manually add blogroll code/tags in your sidebar to avoid the pre-formatted style.

  1. 50. hgrg | April 20, 2008 #

    Hello!
    I’m a begginer wordpress user, but ive got some php,HTML,JavaScript expiriences..
    But I can’t find out how could i solve that: Ive got pages which are coming under other pages.. but if I use them in a hierarchy where are subpages the theme is bein mad like that: http://hgrg.extra.hu/kep/sunrise_subpage.jpg
    I’m glad to see that you take care about all your themes not like other developers..

  1. 51. hso | April 20, 2008 #

    @ hgrg

    That should not happen because the pages tag has a depth setting of 1, which means only the parent pages are shown. With that said, I noticed a but, the current tag in sidebar.php for pages will look like this:

    <li><a href=”<?php echo get_settings(’home’); ?>/”>Home</a>
    <?php wp_list_pages(’sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=’); ?></li>

    But it should really look like this:

    <li><a href=”<?php echo get_settings(’home’); ?>/”>Home</a></li>
    <?php wp_list_pages(’sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=’); ?>

    Hope that solves the issue, let me know.

  1. 52. hgrg | April 21, 2008 #

    Hello!
    I’m afraid that i did not desrcibe my problem well enough: I would like to use sub pages(depth 2,3) and then if i add a subpage then it is doin like uve seen at the picture..
    here is it what i would like to do(made with graphic program):
    http://hgrg.extra.hu/kep/sunrise_subpage2.jpg
    The source code that wp generates:

    <div class="nav" style="margin-bottom:55px;">

    <h2>Regös alapítvány</h2>
    <ul>
    <li class="page_item page-item-3"><a href="http://regos.hu/beta/?page_id=3" title="Regös Alapítvány">Regös Alapítvány</a>
    <ul>
    <li class="page_item page-item-4"><a href="http://regos.hu/beta/?page_id=4" title="Elérhetőségek">Elérhetőségek</a></li>
    </ul>
    </li>

    </ul>
    </div>

    Thanks for your quick answers!

  1. 53. hso | April 21, 2008 #

    @ hgrg

    I see what you mean, you want the tags to generate child pages and off it to the right.

    All you need to do is open style.css and look for this:

    .nav li {
    font-weight: bold;
    margin: 5px 0 5px 0px;
    padding: 0px 0 0 0px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
    height: 25px; background: url(images/li.png) no-repeat left;
    }

    Right below that, add this code:

    .nav li li {
    padding: 0px 0 0 10px;
    }

    That will offset all 2nd level (child) nav(igation) list by 10px to the right (because of the left padding). Hope that helps.

  1. 54. hgrg | April 24, 2008 #

    Hello!
    I see but it did not work i dont know why..
    :(
    Any other ideas?

  1. 55. hso | April 24, 2008 #

    @ hgrg

    If it is of any help try adding the full path for the child list like below:

    .nav ul li ul li {
    padding: 0px 0 0 10px;
    }

    or

    .nav ul li ul li {
    padding-left:10px;
    margin-left:5px;
    }
