As San Fran remembers the 100 anniversary of the great earthquake, Californians in the bay area are gearing up for the next big one. According to Dr David Schwartz, the current chief of the San Francisco Earthquake Hazard Project, there is a 62% chance of one or more M 6.7, or greater, earthquakes in the Bay Area in the period up to 2032. Schwartz also points that the 1986 quake released just 3% of the energy of the great 1906 earthquake, and was aver 60 miles from the Bay, yet resulted in some $10 billion loss in property.

This would be a good time to ask, is San Francisco ready for the next Big One? Also, will FEMA be an active partner of this plan considering that the bay has more whites than black?
