What part of Illegal do you not get about Illegal Immigrants?

Congress is debating the issue of dealing with illegal immigrants entering America from South of the Border. While the threats at the borders are clear and present, the proposed legislations are over simplified and short sighted. This proposal also fails to account for millions of law abiding individuals waiting in line to immigrate legally.
Congress is debating the merits of each of the bills, which outlines as follows (over simplified highlight): 1) Amnesty to all illegal immigrants from Mexico, Central & South America or 2) Process those already present in the US and issue temporary work visas or 3) Send them back to their home countries to be processed for temporary work visas.
If any of the three proposed bill were to pass, it will pose an uphill battle for those who have followed the rule of the game and worked the way up to legally petition for a Green Card/Citizenship, it is as if you are in line at the DMV on a especially crowded day and this blind, drunk, non-English speaking felon, cuts the line, spends an hour at the counter, gets this drivers license and walks off with out pay for it, while you are still in line only because you followed all the rule.

It appears that the need for cheap laborers somehow hampers the intelligence of those setting immigration policies. Why do Americans complain about skilled legal immigrants take away their high dollar jobs while they welcome cheap unskilled illegal immigrants with open arms? Clearly, Americans fear their lack of skills to compete for the high dollar job over the lack of their ability to clean toilets. Double standard? Yes. There seem to exist two rules, one that will meet your interests, another to thwart the national interest. Ask yourself the questions, who is America better of with, skilled engineers/doctors or unskilled gardener/constructions worker?
The double standards are also evident in the legal justice system, which recently passed an amendment that protects churches providing shelter to illegals at the border (and more often provide information about employers who hire illegals) but the same law prosecutes those who help these illegals cross the border (aka trafficking). Two rules for the justice system too, why? The Church is obviously got the better of the State. It would be sacrilegious to blame the Church for anything, even if they are at fault (remember Catholic priests).
Flaws/oversight of these options:
- If case 1- Why would they work low paid jobs if they became Americans? What if they decide to find better paid jobs or worse go on welfare instead.
- If case 2- Easy ride, but, will they pay back taxes, fines, social security payments, medicare payments etc? If not, how do you account for the services they would stress like hospitals, schools etc?
- If case 3- Why would a guy who swam across Rio Grande with water snakes up his butt go back only to lose wage and wait to be processed, risking not being processed at all.
This is a case of partisan politics gone wrong, Democrats are doing it to attract immigrants votes in general, however, the Republicans seem to be having the last laugh. Contrary to popular believe, immigrants from Mexico and South/Central America are increasingly voting Republican, GWB received more Hispanic votes in 2004 than in the earlier election. Most farmers who hire/employ illegals vote Republican, and why do you think they appointed Alberto Gonzales as the U.S. Attorney General? To influence the fastest growing ethnic group in America to vote Republican.
America, ask your congress men/women what part of illegal they do not understand?
