How about reducing oil dependency from the Persian Gulf by 75 percent by 2025? Sounds like a good idea? Yes and no. Yes because it may jack up the presidents poll numbers, no because the proposal account for a net reduction of less than 0.7 percent of all imports a year spread over the next 19 years, in other words less than 13 percent of all oil imported period.
Any sensible citizen can save more than 23 percent a year by driving safe and slow, use cruise control (if available), avoiding excess idling, timely service of the vehicles engine and keeping the tires inflated as recommended. So why not ask people to drive small cars instead of SUVs? Ask the President.
